Whether it’s a weekend getaway or a lengthy escape, Door County, Wis., is a fantastic choice. Located on the “thumb of the mitten,” poking into Lake Michigan, the peninsula boasts of natural beauty and relaxation.
I’ve visited the peninsula and surrounding islands several times, most recently at the end of July. Now that the leaves are starting to change, I wouldn’t mind a quick return visit.
I recommend the peninsula to all types of travelers. There is such a wide variety of things to do and see, the people are always very friendly, everything is a short drive away and the prices aren’t outrageous for a tourist destination.
Part of the charm is the lack of chain restaurants and hotels. You’re left with a wide variety of family businesses with excellent service.
Just make sure you don’t over plan your trip; you’re going to want time to relax and take in the breathtaking views.
